    Habit
    Perennial; caespitose. Culms erect; 13-35 cm long. Culm-internodes smooth. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.5-1.5 mm long. Leaf-blades straight; 2-10 cm long; 1-3 mm wide; stiff. Leaf-blade surface scabrous; rough adaxially. Leaf-blade apex obtuse.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle spiciform; oblong; 3-6 cm long; 0.8-1.2 cm wide. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels smooth, or scaberulous; glabrous.

    Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with a barren rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 5.5-6 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus pubescent. Floret callus hairs 0.5-0.7 mm long.

Upper glume lanceolate; 5.5-6 mm long; 1.2 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; purple; 1-keeled. Upper glume primary vein smooth, or scaberulous. Upper glume apex acute.

    Fertile lemma lanceolate; 4.5-5 mm long; membranous; without keel. Lemma surface smooth, or scaberulous. Lemma apex entire, or erose; obtuse; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; arising 0.3-0.4 way up back of lemma; geniculate; 4.5-5 mm long overall; with twisted column. Rhachilla extension 1.5-2 mm long; pubescent; with 0.5-1 mm long hairs.

    Lodicules 2. Anthers 3. Stigmas 2.
    Fruits
    Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum punctiform. Disseminule comprising a floret.
