    Habit
    Slender annual; stems prostrate, red, glabrous, radiating to ± 8 cm from a central root, much-branched with the branchlets ascending to 2.5 cm, not rooting at the nodes and not disarticulating.
    Leaves
    Leaves opposite, succulent, elliptic, up to 8 mm long and 3 mm wide, olive-green, obtuse to subacute; nodes and leaf-axils glabrous.
    Inflorescences
    Flowers subsessile in open dichasial cymes terminating the main stems and branches; bracts leaf-like, bracteoles ovate-deltoid, ± 0.7 mm long.
    Flowers
    Sepals bright red, rather thin, suborbicular, ± 1.3 mm long, rounded; petals 4, white, suborbicular, 1.5 mm long, connate only at the base; stamens 4, alternating with the petals, anthers mauve; style <1 mm, stigma 2-branched.
    Fruits
    Capsule orange-coloured, broader than long, 1.5 mm high, 2 mm in diameter, dehiscing above the middle, the lid strongly flattened, base and lid of similar crustaceous texture; seeds 0.75 mm long, black, testa cells small, in concentric rings, strongly domed with the domes somewhat elongated, margins slightly sinuate.
