    Habit
    Erect to procumbent annual or short-lived perennial herb; stems up to 25 cm long, puberulous to pubescent or densely so.
    Leaves
    Leaves with the smaller 1/2–2/3 of larger; lamina linear-lanceolate, largest 4–8 × 0.2–0.7 cm, margin entire (rarely with a single tooth near base), uniformly puberulous or sparsely so on both sides.
    Flowers
    Heads on upper part of stems only; peduncle up to 3.5 cm long, indumentum as stems; axes puberulous; floral leaves and outer bracts lanceolate, up to 3 cm long, puberulous and finely ciliate, no capitate glands; inner bracts lanceolate to ovate-elliptic, up to 18 mm long.
    Calyx
    Sepals sericeous-puberulous, no capitate glands; dorsal ovate-elliptic, 13–15 mm long, apical part ligulate, apex acuminate, no lateral teeth; ventral similar, 10–12 mm long, with 2 acute teeth up to 1.5 mm long, no lateral teeth; lateral 8–11 mm long.
    Corolla
    Corolla bright blue, 19–22 mm long of which the tube 3–5 mm; limb distinctly 3-lobed, callus not ribbed, with 3 distinct apical flanges.
    Filaments
    Filaments 4.5–6 mm long, glabrous; appendage 1–1.5 mm long, broadly rounded, not curved; anthers 3.5–4 mm long.
    Fruits
    Capsule and seed not seen.

    Ecology
    On sandy to clayey soil in shallow damp depressions in coastal bushland, roadsides; 0–50 m
    Note
    This grows together with Blepharis pratensis, and in the herbaria the two have been confused. It differs in usually being annual, in the linear leaves, spreading indumentum and smaller flowers.
