    Habit
    Erect to procumbent perennial herb from woody rootstock; stems up to 60 cm long, pilose with long many-celled glossy hairs.
    Leaves
    Leaves subequal or smaller 3/4 of larger; lamina narrowly elliptic (lower) to linear-lanceolate, largest 8.5–11 × 0.5–1 cm, margin entire or some with 1–2 teeth per side in lower half, sparsely pilose on both sides.
    Flowers
    Heads on upper part of stems or along the whole length, subsessile or peduncle up to 1(–2) cm long, pilose; axis sparsely pilose; floral leaves and outer bracts lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, up to 3 cm long, sparsely to densely pilose with long many-celled hairs, no capitate glands; inner bracts similar, tinged purplish towards apex, 13–18 mm long.
    Calyx
    Sepals purplish on veins and towards apex, sparsely pilose and long-ciliate; dorsal ovate-elliptic, 17–25 mm long, narrowing gradually to the acute apex or with ligulate apical part and then subacute to rounded, no lateral teeth; ventral similar, with slightly ligulate apical part, 15–22 mm long, with 2 cuspidate teeth, no lateral teeth; lateral 13–19 mm long.
    Corolla
    Corolla lavender, 15–30 mm long of which the tube 3–7 mm; limb distinctly 3-lobed, callus ribbed apically and with 3 distinct apical flanges.
    Filaments
    Filaments 6–10 mm long, with scattered glands near top; appendage ± 2 mm long, broadly rounded, slightly curved; anthers ± 4 mm long.
    Fruits
    Capsule and seed not seen.

    Note
    Known only from this collection and two from N Mozambique Easily recognised by the indumentum of long pilose hairs.
