    Habit
    Annual; caespitose. Culms erect, or geniculately ascending; 2-15 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.2-1 mm long. Leaf-blades flat, or involute; 0.5-2 cm long; 0.5 mm wide.

    Inflorescence composed of racemes. Racemes 1; single; unilateral; 0.5-2 cm long. Rhachis subterete. Spikelet packing broadside to rhachis; 2 -rowed. Spikelets appressed; solitary. Fertile spikelets sessile.

    Fertile lemma oblong; 1.2-2 mm long; hyaline; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma surface pubescent. Lemma apex erose; truncate. Palea 1 length of lemma; 2 -veined. Palea surface pubescent; hairy on back.

    Lodicules absent. Anthers 3; 1-1.7 mm long. Stigmas pubescent.
    Fruits
    Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; ellipsoid. Hilum punctiform.

    Europe: northern, central, southwestern, southeastern, and eastern. Africa: north. Australasia: Australia.
