    Habit
    Tufted plants, 10 – 24 cm tall
    Culms
    Culms 0.25 – 0.3 mm wide, subtrigonous, longitudinally 7-ribbed
    Leaves
    Leaves ⅓ as long as culm, some reduced to bladeless sheaths; blade 3 – 7.5 cm long, capillary, flat to slightly concave, lower surface 3-nerved, margins and nerves scabrid; sheath 1 – 2 cm long, membranous, stramineous with ferrugineous blotches, longitudinally lineate, apex ciliate

    Inflorescence a simple, lax or dense anthelodium with 3 – 5 spikelets; involucral bracts leaf-like, the basal bract shorter than or ± equalling inflorescence

    Spikelets ovoid, 3 – 5 × 1.75 – 2.5 mm, rachilla contracted, winged, persistent

    Glumes ovate, ± 1.75 × 1.5 mm, apex emarginate, reddish with brown patches, midrib stramineous, sides membranous, hispid, margins ciliate
    Stamens
    Stamens 2, anthers 0.3 mm long, connective tip rounded to slightly acute, filaments band-shaped
    Stigma
    Stigma branches 3; style base thickened, persistent
    Fruits
    Nutlets obovoid, 0.75 × 0.7 mm, trigonous, stramineous to pale chestnut-brown; surface transversely rugose, cells longitudinally elongated; style-base flattened, reddish, persistent
