    Ecuador, Pichincha Prov., on the western slopes of the Pichincha, in the Mindo Valley and between Cuyujua and Bacza on the eastern Cordillera.
    General Description
    Robust, high climbing; internodes 6-12 cm long, 2 cm and more diam.; cataphylls herbaceous, linear-lanceolate, 1.5-2 dm [15 - 20 cm] long, finally weathered into fibers. LEAVES: Petiole moderately sheathed, frequently longer than blade, convex at the back (lower or outer side), unisulcate adaxially, briefly downy (or velvety?); geniculum 2-3 cm long; blades herbaceous, intensely green above, bullate-rugose, paler beneath, reticulate-many-veined, alveolate all nerves and veins decidedly prominent, covered with powdery hair-covering, ovate-subelliptical, deeply cordate, 3.5-5.5 dm [35 - 55 cm] long, 2.5-4 dm [25 - 40 cm] wide; posterior lobes 1/2-1/3 as long as anterior, semi-ovate, obtuse, converging inwardly; merging into anterior lobe in a uniformly convex line; sinus oval; primary lateral basal veins, lowermost joined into briefly naked small ribs; primary lateral veins of anterior lobe 10-12 pairs together with interlobar and the majority of posterior lobes coalescing in a collective vein 5-7 mm from the margin. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle equalling petiole, erect, rigid; spathe linear-lanceolate, long-cuspidate at the apex, 2 dm [20 cm] long, 3 cm wide; spadix 1.5 dm [15 cm] long, 1 cm diam., stipitate 1.2 cm.
