    Habit
    Stiffly erect herb with a short branched woody base.
    Shoots
    Flowering shoots robust, virgate, 60–120 cm. high, occasionally branched near base, leafy below, terminating in a generally freely branched inflorescence.
    Leaves
    Leaves towards the base of shoot 6·5–12·5 cm. × 5·0–9·0 mm., linear; sheath 7·5–12·0 mm. long.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence bearing up to 30 flowers; axis elongated; primary branches erect or slightly spreading, generally branched, only the uppermost shorter than the corresponding internode on the axis; flowers erect.
    Calyx
    Calyx cylindric or elliptic 1·2–1·8 cm. × 2·5–4·0 mm., lobes c. 6 mm. long. Calyx bracts 8 or 10, closely imbricate, covering the calyx nearly to the base of the calyx-lobes, uppermost broadly elliptic, subobtuse, mucronate, margin fringed with short, white hairs.
    Corolla
    Petal-lamina pure white, turning pink with age, 5·0–8·0 × 3·5–5·0 mm., obovate or rounded, crenulate or shallowly dentate.
