    General Description
    Rosulate herbwith very abbreviated internodes, leaves many. LEAVES: Petiole short, up to 11 cm long, nearly semi-terete, adaxially broadly canaliculate with angled margins, geniculum 1 - 2.5 (- 3.5) cm long. Leaf blade coriaceous-succulent and fragile, spathulate, acuminate at the apex, up to 83 cm long and 23 cm wide, glossy on both surfaces, almost flat at the margins, midrib adaxially flat, abaxially prominently keeled, primary lateral veins many, curved and disappearinginto the margin except the uppermost 2 - 3 which join together into a collective vein distant from the margin. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle green or purplish green, slender, up to 53 cm long, in fruit pendent or prostrate. Spathe reflexed-patent and spiralled, sub-oblong-linear, sheathing at the base, acuminate-cuspidate at the apex, revolute at the margin, up to 13 cm long and 2 cm wide. Spadix sessile or stipitate with the stipe 0.1 cm long dorsally and 0.4 cm long ventrally, dark purple, up to 20 cm long and 1 cm thick, in fruit up to 27 cm long and pendent. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries lilac, glossy, obovoid, 0.55 cm long and 0.3 - 0.4 cm thick, 1-seeded, with white pulp and the seeds reddish purple.
