    General Description
    Stem ascending, internodes short but distinct. Cataphylls soon decomposing into fibres which cover the internodes. LEAVES: Petiole up to 8 cm long, 6 - 7 mm thick, rounded abaxially, broadly canaliculated adaxially, geniculum short, 6 - 7 mm long and thick. Leaf blade coriaceous, bright green, paler abaxially, up to 35 cm long, up to 9 cm wide above the middle, oblong-lanceolate, acute, cuneately narrowed from the upper third or from the middle towards the base, midrib flattened at the base, further up acutely angled adaxially and abaxially, primary lateral veins 20 - 23 on each side, somewhat prominent, lowermost and sometimes even the middle ones ascending towards the margin and running out into it, middle and upper ones patent, joined into a collective vein separated from the margin by a distance of one quarter to one fifth of the half width of the blade. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle slightly compressed, green, ca. 30 cm long. Spathe reflexed, lanceolate, long acuminate, purplish, 6 - 12 cm long, 1 - 2 cm wide. Spadix slightly attenuate upwards, dark purple, 12 - 15 cm long. Flowers 1.5 mm diam.
    Brazil. Origin unknown.
