    Habit
    Stems simple from a creeping woody rhizome, pubescent, striate.
    Leaves
    Leaves subsessile; lamina 5–13 × 2–4·5 cm., narrowly oblong to oblanceolate, rounded and minutely mucronate at the apex, narrowed or cuneate at the base, papyraceous when young, glabrous on both surfaces, pale green below; lateral nerves c. 6 pairs, tertiary nerves markedly reticulate and prominent below; stipules c. 4 mm. long, linear, pilose.
    Inflorescences
    Cymes up to 5 cm. long, c. 8-flowered; peduncle sparsely hairy or glabrous, partially adnate to the stem for c. 5 mm. above the axil; pedicels ± 2 mm. long; bracts c. 2 mm. long.
    Calyx
    Sepals c. 7 mm. long, narrow, free almost to the base, tomentose at the apex, becoming glabrous towards the base.
    Corolla
    Petals c. 7 mm. long, narrowly oblong, 2-fid for 2/3 their length, glabrous.
    Stamens
    Stamens as long as petals.
    Pistil
    Ovary villous; style c. 6 mm. long, deeply 3-divided.
    Fruits
    Fruit 4 × 2·5 cm., obovoid.

    Habit
    Shrublet c. 40 cm. tall; stems many, erect, virgate, glabrous, from a woody root-stock.
    Leaves
    Leaves sessile or shortly petiolate; lamina 7–16 × 0·5–2·5 cm., narrowly lanceolate or linear, papyraceous, glabrous on both surfaces, obtuse or rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base; lateral nerves prominent below; stipules linear, c. 3 mm. long, deciduous; petiole up to 7 mm. long.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence a few-flowered axillary cyme up to 9 cm. long; peduncle 1–3 cm. long, 2-forked.
    Flowers
    Flowers 5–8 mm. long; pedicels c. 4 mm. long, glabrous; bracts and bracteoles c. 2 mm. long, linear, deciduous.
    Calyx
    Calyx campanulate; sepals 4–5 mm. long, linear, acute tomentellous.
    Corolla
    Petals 5–6 mm. long, linear, 2-lobed to t of their length; squamulous glands minute.
    Stamens
    Stamens free.
    Pistil
    Ovary lanate; style 4–5 mm. long, pilose, 3-fid.
    Fruits
    Fruit (unripe) oblong-obovoid.
