    Habit
    Woody herb to small shrub, annual (?) or short-lived perennial, erect, 0.3–1.5 m high; stems woody in the proximal half, branched, striate, grey, scabrid-pubescent, densely leafy.
    Leaves
    Leaves grey-green, pinnatipartite, in outline 1–4.5 cm long, 0.3–1(–2.4) cm wide, the lobes in 2–3 pairs, linear, 2–10 mm long and 1–2 mm wide, base half-amplexicaul, margins entire and revolute, apex mucronate, scabrid and glandular on both surfaces.
    Capitulum
    Capitula 4–7 mm long, in dense cymes, these united into terminal, fairly dense corymbs; stalks of individual capitula 1–4 mm long; stalks of individual cymes very short to 10 cm long, scabrid-pubescent; phyllaries pale green, ± 35, 3-seriate, the outermost smallest, lanceolate, 1.5–4 mm long, 0.3–0.6 mm wide, acute and laciniate, pubescent and glandular; receptacle convex or toroid, minutely toothed.
    Florets
    Marginal florets (pale) yellow, 34–45, tube 1–1.3 mm long, ray 0.3–0.6 mm long and as narrow as the tube, style 2.5–3.3 mm long; central florets (pale) yellow, 3–5, tube 1.5–2.3 mm long, lobes 0.7–1 mm long and glandular; anthers 0.9–1 mm long with a narrowly triangular, almost filiform, appendage; style 2.8–3 mm long with short, papillose, triangular branches.
    Fruits
    Achenes cylindrical or compressed-elliptical, 0.8–1.2 mm long, ribbed, sparsely pubescent; pappus of silvery white or yellowish setae 2.5–5 mm long.
    Habitat
    Upland grassland, where it may be common or even dominant, a weed in pasture, also in secondary ( Artemisia) bushland; (900–)1650–2700 m
