    Habit
    Herb, sometimes described as annual but usually woody at the base, 0.2–1.5(–2) m high, densely branched, viscid and aromatic; branches often reddish, glandular-scabrid.
    Leaves
    Leaves sessile, lanceolate, 2–7.5 cm long, 0.5–2 cm wide, base cordate and semi-amplexicaul, apex acute and mucronate, glandular and scabrid on both surfaces and often woolly on the adaxial midrib (and sometimes on the margins), young leaves sometimes cobwebby all over.
    Capitulum
    Capitula 8–12 mm long but up to 2.8 cm in diameter, heterogamous, solitary and terminal but the plant branched densely to form a large leafy corymb with many heads; stalks of individual capitula absent or hidden by the distal leaves; phyllaries shiny, bright or golden yellow, spreading, multiseriate, ovate or elliptic, 4–10 mm long; receptacle honeycombed, 10–12 mm in diameter.
    Florets
    Florets yellow or orange-yellow, several hundred; outer florets many (but fewer than inner), tube filiform from a cylindric base, 2.2–3.3 mm long, lobes 0.1–0.2 mm long, glandular, style 2.4–3.6 mm long; inner florets many, tube cylindric, 2.7–3.2 mm long, lobes 0.3–0.4 mm long, anthers 1.3–1.5 mm long, style 3–3.6 mm long.
    Fruits
    Achenes ellipsoid, 0.5–1 mm long, glabrous; pappus pale yellow, 2.5–4 mm long, subplumose distally, falling individually.
    Habitat
    Grasslands, clearings in forest or bamboo; 1250–3000 m
