Legumes of the World. Edited by G. Lewis, B. Schrire, B. MacKinder & M. Lock. Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. (2005)

    Habit
    Trees
    Ecology
Dense tropical lowland rain forest and seasonally dry forest and bushland
    Distribution
    WC Africa
    Note
Placed by Polhill (1994) with Riedeliella, Inocarpus and Etaballia, these three now in the Dalbergieae sens. lat., and on the basis of floral morphology Amphimas does appear to group with these, however molecular evidence is lacking and the relationships of this genus are still to be resolved. Evidence from wood anatomy (Baretta-Kuipers, 1981: 686), chemistry and leaf morphology (Polhill, 1981b: 217) indicate an affinity to Myrocarpus (Sophoreae) and Mildbraediodendron and Cordyla (Swartzieae)
    [LOWO]
    Use
Amphimas pterocarpoides Harms (bokanga, lati, yaya) is used as medicine (the bark contains a red sticky resin); toxic alkaloids are also present; the timber is used in construction, planking, joinery and veneers
