    Habit
    Perennial herb 40–110 cm high with horizontal, fleshy tuberous rhizome (or woody, fide Kerfoot 1779) and erect flowering stems; stems glabrous, succulent or rather succulent.
    Leaves
    Lower and median stem leaves succulent or somewhat succulent, pale green or glaucous, the lower small, soon disappearing, the median functional, 4–8, petiolate, peltate, circular, subreniform-circular to almost rounded-triangular or rounded-subhastate in outline, 2.5–6 cm long, 3.8–9.5 cm wide, margins closely sinuate-dentate to broadly sinuate-apiculate-dentate, apex rounded to obtuse and apiculate; petiole 2.5–8 cm long; upper leaves few, remote, small, lanceolate, scale-like.
    Capitulum
    Capitula discoid, pendulous to erect, numerous in long-stalked dense to spreading or lax terminal corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula slender, often glaucous; involucre cylindrical, pale green or glaucous, 6.5–8.5 mm long, 2–3 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 0–2, lanceolate, 1.5–5.5 mm long; phyllaries 5–8, pale green or glaucous, 6–8 mm long.
    Florets
    Ray florets 0; disc florets pale to golden yellow, corolla 4.8–6 mm long, expanded above the middle into infundibuliform to campanulate upper part, glabrous, lobes 1 mm long.
    Fruits
    Achenes 2.5–3.2 mm long, ribbed, shortly hairy; pappus 4.7–5 mm long.
    Habitat
    Grassland or bushed grassland, often in rocky sites, sometimes in cultivated areas or wooded grassland; 950–2800 m
