    Habit
    Perennial herb, 60–80 cm high; crown of rootstock woolly; stems erect, leafy, pale green, rather slender, glabrous.
    Leaves
    Stem leaves sessile, ovate to lanceolate, the median largest 10–15 cm long, 3.3–4.5 cm wide, the upper and lower smaller, base semi-amplexicaul, margins entire or remotely denticulate, apex obtuse, shortly acuminate-apiculate, glabrous, minutely glandular.
    Capitulum
    Capitula radiate, numerous in a divaricate lax terminal corymb; involucre cylindrical, 5.5–6 mm long, 3.5 mm in diameter, glabrous; bracts of calyculus 2, 1–2 mm long; phyllaries 6–8, pale green, 5–6 mm long, shortly tapered, slightly bearded at margins at and towards apex.
    Florets
    Ray florets 4–5, yellow, corolla tube 3.5 mm long, glabrous, rays 8–13 x 2–2.5 mm, 4-veined; disc florets yellow with yellow styles and orange anthers, corolla 5.5–6 mm long, tube abruptly expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 1–1.2 mm long.
    Fruits
    Achenes 5 mm long, glabrous, ribbed, pappus 5 mm long, white.

    Secondary woodland or grassland with Protea; 950–2250 m
