    Habit
    A succulent perennial, up to c. 4 m. tall.
    Stem
    Stem stout, nearly woody below, erect or ascending, simple, terete, glabrous, emitting sterile shoots at the base.
    Leaves
    Leaves decussate, scattered, impari–pinnatisect, rarely undivided, glabrous, petiolate; segments 7–15 x 1·5–5 cm., oblong, ovate–oblong or oblong–lanceolate, asymmetric and decurrent at the base, crenate or again pinnatisect, obtuse at the apex; petiole up to 16 (or more?) cm. long, rather broadened at the base, amplexicaul.
    Flowers
    Flowers pendulous, in dense cymes disposed in a terminal 40–80 x 20–40 cm. pSnicle, frequently ± numerous abortive flowers replaced by pseudobulbils of minute leaves; pedicels 8–15 mm. long, very slender, densely papillose (papillae short, obtuse).
    Calyx
    Calyx inflated–subcampanulate, bluntly 4–angled, green, shortly papillose; tube 13–16 mm. long; lobes 3·25–4 x 5·5–7 mm., semiorbicular, shortly acuminate–cuspidate.
    Corolla
    Corolla–tube 18–24 mm. long, constricted above the carpels, suburceolate upwards, green; corolla–lobes 2·75–3·3 x 3–4 mm., subovate, suddenly acuminate–cuspidate, spreading, yellow.
    Stamens
    Stamens inserted below the middle of the corolla–tube, distinctly exserted; anthers 2–2·6 x 1·3–1·45 mm., ovate.
    Carpels
    Carpels 7–8·2 mm. long, connate at the base ror c. 2 mm.; styles 17–20 mm. long.
    Scales
    Scales 1·3–1·6 x 2–2·4 mm., semicircular, emarginate.
