    Habit
    Decumbent succulent perennial herb, with erect reddish usually pustulate branched stems, woody at the base, up to 30 cm. high.
    Leaves
    Leaves alternate to subopposite, sessile, generally tightly clustered on sterile shoots, oblong to oblong-ovoid, 5–20 mm. long, 2–3.5 mm. broad, apex obtuse, often papillose, base shortly auriculate-peltate, upper surface concave, lower convex, succulent, reddish in exposed places, green in shaded places.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence a terminal few-flowered corymbose cyme; bracts similar to the leaves but smaller; pedicels 1–4(–6) mm. long.

    Flowers 5-merous.
    Calyx
    Calyx-lobes united at the base for 0.5 mm., oblong-lanceolate, 2.5–6 mm. long, 1.5–2 mm. broad, apex obtuse and ± papillose, base spurred.
    Corolla
    Petals united at the base for 0.2–0.4 mm., oblong-lanceolate to oblong, 4–6(–12 fide Raym.-Hamet (1957)) mm. long, 1.5–2 mm. broad, obtuse.
    Stamens
    Stamens 10; antisepalous filaments 2.5–3 mm. long; antipetalous filaments inserted 1 mm. above the base of the petals, free for 1.5–2 mm.; anthers oval-orbicular, 0.6–0.8 mm. long.
    Nectaries
    Nectary scales oblong-ligulate, 0.8 mm. long, 0.4 mm. broad, shortly retuse.
    Carpels
    Carpels 5, shortly united at the base for 0.5 mm., 5–6 mm. long; style 1 mm. long.
    Seeds
    Seeds numerous, ellipsoid, ± 1 mm. long, finely tuberculate.
    Habitat
    Upland forest (rare), upland heath and upland moor, generally in rock crevices, etc., sometimes epiphytic; 2400–4500 m.
