    Distribution
    Endemic to the E slopes of the Andes in Ecuador, where it is sometimes very abundant in the forest understorey.
    General Description
    Understorey palm. Stems solitary or clustered, decumbent, with short internodes, to 2 m long and 2-3 cm in diameter, distally with persistent leaf-sheathes. Leaves 50-120 cm long, the blade divided into 3-7 broad, unequal pinnae on each side. Inflorescence borne among the leaves, red in fruit, elongate; peduncle 20-40 cm long; rachis 10-35 cm long; branches ca. 30, shorter than the rachis. Fruit black, globose, ca. 1 cm in diameter.
