    Habit
    Climber or trailer to 5 m.; stems herbaceous, subglabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaf-blade dark green, broadly ovate, ovate, triangular or triangular-subhastate in outline, cordate or subtruncate at the base, rather coarsely and remotely or rather closely sinuate-toothed, glabrous or slightly hairy on the nerves beneath, 76–160 mm. long, 52–200 mm. broad, unlobed or ± deeply palmately 3–5-lobed, the lobes broadest or distinctly narrowed at the base; petiole ± shortly hairy, 10–110 mm. long.

    Probracts small, fleshy, ± 6 mm. long and 4 mm. broad.

    Male flowers in short dense 3–25-flowered racemes carried on 10–14 mm. long peduncles; receptacle-tube ± 16 mm. long, tubular below, expanded above; lobes triangular, ± 3 mm. long; corolla dull yellow-orange, the lobes ± 20 mm. long, united in lower three-fifths; stamens 3.

    Habit
    Stems scandent, to 15 m., almost glabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaf-lamina 7·5–16 × 5–20 cm., broadly ovate or ovate in outline, cordate, weakly cordate or subtruncate, dark green, glossy, rather coriaceous, glabrous except for fine hairs on veins above, scabrid-punctate, unlobed and 3–5-angled or shallowly to deeply palmately 3–5-lobed, the lobes triangular, ovate, broadly elliptic, ovate-oblong or oblong-elliptic, plane and remotely denticulate to rather prominently sinuate-dentate, acute to obtuse, apiculate, the central largest.

    Petioles 1–11 cm. long, puberulous.
    Tendrils
    Tendrils 2-fid.

    Probracts 3–10 mm. long, broadly spathulate.
