    Perennial. Culms 15-30.5-47 cm long. Ligule a ciliolate membrane (1), or a fringe of hairs (1). Leaf-blades filiform (1), or linear.

Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; 8-9.75-12 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret, or below groups of fertile florets. Rhachilla internodes pubescent.

Lemma surface smooth (1), or asperulous (1). Lemma apex attenuate; awned; 1 -awned. Palea 1 length of lemma; 2 -veined. Palea keels winged; ciliolate. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
