    Habit
    Perennial. Culms erect, or decumbent; 15-30 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate.
    Inflorescences
    Monoecious; with male and female spikelets in the same inflorescence. Inflorescence composed of racemes; embraced at base by subtending leaf. Racemes single. Sexes mixed. Spikelets in pairs. Fertile spikelets pedicelled; 1 in the cluster. Male spikelets sessile; 1 in a cluster. Pedicels cuneate.

    Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; dorsally compressed; 4.98-7.2 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Male spikelets distinct from female; lanceolate. Male spikelet glumes absent. Male spikelet lemma muticous.
