    Perennial. Culms erect; 40-100 cm long. Culm-internodes distally glabrous. Culm-nodes brown. Lateral branches lacking. Leaf-sheaths striately veined; glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; erose. Leaf-blades 1 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scabrous; rough on both sides.

    Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open; ovate; nodding; 25 cm long. Primary panicle branches 2 -nate. Panicle branches flexuous; scabrous. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

Principal lemma awn from a sinus; 4 mm long overall. Palea 1 length of lemma; 2 -veined. Palea keels scabrous. Palea surface scaberulous. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
