    Habit
    A spiny spreading tree 5–15 m. high; branchlets pubescent.
    Leaves
    Leaves with broadly winged petioles; lamina ovate to elliptic, 5–20 cm. long, 2–12 cm. broad; midrib often pubescent beneath.
    Flowers
    Flowers single or in clusters, 3–7 cm. in diameter; petals cream; stamens 20–25; ovary 11–16-locular.
    Fruits
    Fruit globose or pear-shaped, 10–30 cm. in diameter, peel thick and often yellowish; pulp pale yellow or pink, sweet.
