    Habit
    Small tree, shrub or scrambling perennial herb up to 10 m tall.
    Stem
    Stems stellatetomentose or densely stellate-pubescent and aculeolate
    Leaves
    Leaves suborbicular in outline, 4–6 × 5–16 cm, ± distinctly 3–7-palmatilobed or -palmatipartite, apex acute or rounded, base truncate to cordate, usually with a linear or elliptic fissure or a suborbicular to elliptic gland with a central fissure on the lower surface near the base of the midrib, margin irregularly serrate or crenate serrate, stellate-pubescent above, stellate-tomentellous beneath; petiole 2–12 cm long, hairy like the young stems; stipules linear to filiform, 3–4 mm long, hispid

    Flowers solitary, axillary or in terminal racemes; pedicel 5–7 mm long, densely hispid, articulated near the base; epicalyx of 7–8 free, linear bracts 8–12 × 1–2 mm; calyx lobes lanceolate, 2–3 cm long, 3–6 mm wide, densely setose, fused in the basal quarter, with an elliptic gland on the median vein

    Corolla yellow or purplish with dark red or purple centre, 3–6 cm long, stellate-pubescent on the outside, glabrous inside.

    Staminal tube 15–20 mm long; filaments 0.3–0.5 mm long; exserted part of style 6–7.5 mm long, glabrous or very sparsely pilose
    Fruits
    Capsule ovoid-acute, 2 cm long, 1.5 cm diameter, densely setose.
    Seeds
    Seeds brown, subreniform, 4 × 2–3 mm, glabrous.
