General Description

A terrestrial herb to 30 cm tall; rhizome subterranean. Stem terete, elongate, 25-30 cm long, densely hairy, leafy along length. Leaves plicate, narrowly oblong-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, 2.5-5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, hairy. Inflorescence laxly to six-flowered, with the flowers produced in succession one at a time; bracts leaf-like, 2.5-3 cm long, hairy. Flowers butter-yellow, the lip flushed red inside below the column, 2.5-3 cm tall; pedicel and ovary to 2 cm long, densely hairy. Dorsal sepal elliptic, acute or shortlyapiculate, 1.4-1.8 cm long, 1-1.1 cm wide, ciliate, finely shortly hairy on outer surface. Synsepal similar to the dorsal sepal but narrower, 1.4-1.7 cm long, 0.9 cm wide, ciliate, shortly hairy on outer surface. Petals spreading-incurved, elliptic-lanceolate, obtuse, 1.9-2.1 cm long, 0.9 cm wide, sparsely hairy on both surfaces, ciliate. Lip an inflated obovoid pouch with incurved margins to the mouth, c. 1..9 cm long, 1.2 cm across, with large translucent windows over the surface, hairy within with a dense tuft of hairs at the base; side lobes incurved, blunt. Column short; stalk glabrous; staminode shiny, convex, transversely elliptic or cordiform, shortly apiculate, 0.5 cm long, 0.7 cm wide, ciliate.
