    Habit
    A robust perennial herb up to 1·25 m., stems densely pubescent with retrorse hairs, the lower hollow.
    Leaves
    Leaves sessile, the lower lyrate–pinnatiiid or pinnatisect, the leaflets ovate–lanceolate to oblanceolate, the terminal ovate, crenate to dentate; upper leaves with much narrower linear segments.
    Peduncles
    Peduncles densely pubescent, up to 25 cm., bearing small capitula 1·25–2 cm. in diameter.
    Bracts
    Involucral bracts linear, pubescent, 7–10 mm., longer than the marginal flowers, becoming somewhat reflexed in fruit. Receptacle bracts 3–5 mm., linear, pubescent.
    Bracteoles
    Involucel tube cylindrical, 8–furrowed, pubescent, 2·5–3 mm. long in fruit.
    Corona
    Corona glabrous, membranaceous, c. 1 mm.
    Calyx
    Calyx setae 3·5–5 mm. long.
    Corolla
    Corolla pinkish or white.
    Fruits
    Mature fruit c. 3 mm. long, corona and calyx persistent.
