    Habit
    Perennial herb or small shrub with prostrate branches; branchlets with a pubescence of hyaline hairs, some of them gland-tipped, becoming glabrous with age; bark thin and flaking.
    Leaves
    Leaves crowded on short fertile suberect branchlets, opposite, subsessile, 0·4–1·6 × 0·15–0·7 cm., ovate-lanceolate to oblong, apex acute or subacute, rounded or subcuneate at the base, denticulate or almost entire, glabrous on both sides or puberulous below, ciliolate at the margins; stipules 2–3 mm. long, linear-lanceolate, glandular-puberulous on back and margins.
    Flowers
    Flowers in the leaf-axils, white or pink, solitary or in 2–3-flowered fascicles or in few-flowered cymes, often crowded towards the ends of the short fertile branchlets giving the appearance of a dense, verticillate spike or raceme; pedicels c. 1 mm. long, puberulous; bracts c. 2 mm. long, linear-lanceolate, membranous, one-nerved, glandular-ciliolate at the margins.
    Calyx
    Sepals 5, 1·8–2·5 × 0·8–1 mm., oblong or lanceolate, apiculate at the apex, the apiculus usually crowned with a small gland, with membranous margins, sparsely puberulous on the dorsal keel, ciliolate at the margins with a proportion of the hairs gland-tipped.
    Corolla
    Petals slightly shorter than the sepals, obovate-oblong, blunt at the apex.
    Stamens
    Stamens 10, with the five larger 1·3–1·5 mm. long opposite the petals and with broadened filaments; the five shorter c. 0·8–1·0 mm. long.
    Pistil
    Ovary c. 1 mm. in diam., 5-locular, longitudinally 5-ribbed, ovoid or globose, glabrous loculi many-ovuled,; styles 5, c. 0·5 mm. long, slightly spreading, swollen at the stigmatic apices.
    Fruits
    Capsule splitting into 5 valves.
    Seeds
    Seeds c. 0·4 × 0·15 mm., subcylindric, almost black, longitudinally tessellated.
