    Note
    Some 30 species endemic to the New World, especially Brazil. Two species ( A. biflora Benth. and A. angustifolia Benth.) have been introduced into cultivation in the Old World tropics for the value of the beautiful flowers, where A. biflora has become naturalized in some areas.
