    Habit
    Perennial geophytic herbs, with an upright stem and thick rhizomes; roots fusiform, fleshy.
    Leaves
    Leaves linear, the margins smooth, ridged.
    Peduncles
    Peduncle stout, terete or slightly compressed, without bracts, bearing two deciduous spatheate valves.
    Pedicel
    Pedicels erect, spreading, with persistent thread-like bracts at the base.
    Perianth
    Perianth blue, zygomorphic, segments fused at the base, subequal, the outer three narrower, thickened and uncinate at the apex; outer face with a median ridge, inner ones grooved along the same line.
    Filaments
    Filaments declinate, of unequal length; anthers dorsifixed, dehiscence introrse.
    Ovary
    Ovary sessile, ovoid to oblong; style curved downwards; stigma small.
    Fruits
    Capsule oblong; seeds many, flat, black, winged.
