    Stamens (6–)8–10;filaments straight and very short in bud, elongating as the flower matures; anthers oblong, pilose, glabrescent, the base sagittate; staminodes similar but the filaments remain short

    Ovary 3(–4)-lobed, golden-hairy; style short, blunt, with 3(–4) furrows

    Inflorescence an axillary usually racemoid thyrse (often partially racemose).

    Flowers spuriously polygamous, usually dioecious, actinomorphic.

    Sepals 5, connate.
    Corolla
    Petals 5, pouchlike owing to the fusion of the margins of the scales.

    Disk lobed.
    Stamens
    Stamens 8–10.
    Ovary
    Ovary 3-gonous, 3-locular; loculi 1-ovulate.
    Fruits
    Fruit a 3-lobed, narrowly to moderately 3-winged, 3-locular loculicidal capsule.
    Seeds
    Seeds 1 in each loculus, with a fleshy arillode surrounding the lower part.
