    Habit
    A semi-succulent papulose annual herb.
    Stem
    Stems prostrate, 8–30 cm. long.
    Leaves
    Leaves petiolate; blade elliptic or rhombic, obtuse at the apex, decurrent into the petiole at the base, 9–45 mm. long, 4–24 mm. broad.

    Petiole 1–20 mm. long.

    Flowers axillary, solitary, pedicellate.
    Calyx
    Calyx-segments 4, obtuse.
    Stamens
    Stamens 4.
    Ovary
    Ovary inferior, 3-(sometimes 2- or 4-)locular.

    Fruit 3–7 mm. diameter, densely but rather softly spiny.
