    Habit
    Large lianas or erect shrubs with white latex.

    Stems woody, bark often verrucose

    Leaves mostly opposite, sometimes alternate, rarely whorled, petiolate, interpetiolar ridges with reddish colleters

    Inflorescences terminal and sub-terminal cymes with dichasial and monochasial branches, many-flowered, bracteate

    Sepals with ciliate margin, with pairs of colleters at inner bases
