    Habit
    Perennial; caespitose. Culms erect; 50-100 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blades flat, or involute; 3-4 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous.

    Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open; elliptic; nodding; 20 cm long. Primary panicle branches spreading. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

    Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with a barren rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 7-8 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus glabrous, or sparsely hairy.

    Fertile lemma lanceolate; 5 mm long; membranous; without keel. Lemma apex awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; arising 0.5 way up back of lemma; geniculate; 4-5 mm long overall; with a straight or slightly twisted column. Rhachilla extension pilose.

    Lodicules 2. Anthers 3. Stigmas 2.
    Fruits
    Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum punctiform. Disseminule comprising a floret.
