    Habit
    Perennial; caespitose. Culms erect; 10-17 cm long. Leaves mostly basal. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1-2 mm long; truncate. Leaf-blades 2-4 cm long; 1-2 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous.

    Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open; ovate; loose; 3-5 cm long; 1-1.5 cm wide. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

    Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with a barren rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 3.5-4 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus pubescent. Floret callus hairs 0.2-0.5 mm long; 0.1 length of lemma.

Upper glume apex acute.
    Florets
    Fertile lemma lanceolate; 3 mm long; membranous; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma apex dentate; 4 -fid; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; arising 0.5 way up back of lemma; straight; 6 mm long overall; with a straight or slightly twisted column. Palea 0.9 length of lemma. Rhachilla extension 1 mm long; villous; with 3 mm long hairs.
