    Habit
    Perennial; caespitose. Culms erect; 4-10 cm long. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.4-0.8 mm long. Leaf-blades conduplicate; 1-3 cm long; 1 mm wide; herbaceous, or coriaceous. Leaf-blade surface glabrous.

    Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle spiciform; linear; 1.5-2.5 cm long; 0.6-0.8 cm wide. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels glabrous.

    Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with a barren rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 4.7-5.4 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus pubescent. Floret callus hairs 0.5 mm long.

    Fertile lemma lanceolate; 3-4 mm long; membranous; without keel. Lemma apex dentate; 2-3 -fid; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; arising 0.1 way up back of lemma; geniculate; 4-4.5 mm long overall; with twisted column. Rhachilla extension 0.4-0.5 mm long; glabrous.
    Flowers
    Lodicules 2. Anthers 3. Stigmas 2.
    Fruits
    Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum punctiform. Disseminule comprising a floret.

    South America: western South America.
