- Habit
- Shrub or tree 2.4–25 m. tall; young branches greyish, longitudinally grooved, glabrous; bark yielding yellow latex when cut.
- Leaves
- Leaves opposite; blades elliptic, obovate or oblanceolate, 4–15 cm. long, 1–6 cm. wide, obtuse to long-acuminate at the apex, cuneate to subrounded at the base, coriaceous, glabrous; venation prominent on both surfaces with numerous lateral nerves; secretory canals parallel to the midrib but little visible; petiole 0.4–1 cm. long, channelled above, ridged transversely, glabrous, with a ligulate appendage towards the base.

- Inflorescences fasciculate, axillary, several–many-flowered, inserted on little cushions at the nodes on the old wood; pedicels 1.5–5 mm. long, accrescent, glabrous.

- Male flowers:sepals 4, unequal, ovate to ± round, the 2 outside 1–1.5 mm. long and wide, the 2 inside 2–2.5 mm. long and wide, all glabrous; petals 4, obovate, 3–4 mm. long, 2–2.5 mm. wide, glabrous; fasciclodes forming a 4-lobed intrastaminal “ disc ”, alternating with the 4 staminal bundles, which are 2.5–3.5 mm. long of 3–4 stamens joined to each other in their lower 1/3; anthers ovoid. Hermaphrodite flowers resembling the male; stamens 4, free, alternating with the “ disc ” glands; ovary 2-locular; stigma subsessile, 2-lobed.
