    Habit
    Prostrate or twining herb 30–60 cm long, from a narrow tuber c. 25 cm long.
    Stem
    Stems with ± appressed or deflexed hairs, sometimes rooting at the nodes.
    Leaves
    Leaves 3-foliolate; terminal leaflet 1.8–4.3 × 0.45–1.7 cm, oblong-lanceolate, rounded and ± mucronate at the apex, broadly cuneate to rounded at the base, unlobed or slightly lobed towards the base or distinctly 3-lobed and ± hastate; lateral leaflets 1.6–3.6 × 0.8–2.2 cm long, semihastate, very distinctly lobed on outer edge, sometimes all the leaflets are ovate-lanceolate to ovate and quite unlobed, shortly appressed pilose on both surfaces; petioles 5–30 mm long; stipules 2.5–3.5 × 1.5–2.5 mm, narrowly ovate to ovate-lanceolate, ribbed.
    Inflorescences
    Peduncles 1-flowered, slender, up to 6 cm long; pedicels 2 mm long with short narrow bracts; bracteoles 3 × 1.2 mm, ovate-lanceolate, ribbed, pilose.
    Calyx
    Calyx tube 3 mm long; lobes 1.5 mm long, broadly triangular, the upper part joined to form a notched lip.
    Corolla
    Standard pink or magenta, 8 × 9 mm, oblate, glabrous.
    Stamens
    Vexillary stamen with tooth at the base.
    Style
    Style 4–5 mm long, the tip bearing the stigmatic surface distinctly flattened, 0.5 × 1 mm.
    Fruits
    Pod 3 cm × 4.5 mm, linear-oblong, flattened, subappressed pilose, the style often persistent.
    Seeds
    Seeds arillate (fide Munyunyembe & Bisby) but no ripe seeds available at Kew.
