    Diagnostic
    Procumbent herb with a stout perennial taproot, much resembling certain forms of I. spicata except for the fruits which are brown, subtorulose, spirally coiled, almost indehiscent, 15–20 mm. long, ± 1.4 mm. wide and 1.8 mm. thick; endocarp spotted; seeds 5–6, oblong, brown, angular, pitted.

    Leaflets 4–7, oblanceolate or cuneate-obovate, not above ± 10 mm. long and 4 mm. wide, strigulose or glabrous above.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence not above 1.5 cm. long, almost sessile.
    Stamens
    Stamens 2.5–3 mm., about as long as calyx.
    Habitat
    Short grassland, especially on poor shallow soils; 50–2100 m.; rainfall 750–1300 mm.
