    Habit
    Erect perennial, somewhat shrubby herb up to 1 m tall, arising from a taproot.
    Stem
    Stems freely branched, some branch tips sometimes twining, young stems golden velvety, older stems glabrescent.
    Leaves
    Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets 1.6–5.7 × 0.8–3 cm, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, obtuse to subacute at the apex, apiculate or not, narrowed to a shortly rounded base, pubescent on the upper surface, velvety pubescent beneath; petiole 1.6–3.2 cm long; rhachis 2–3 mm long; stipules 7–9 × 2–3 mm, acute, striate; stipels 2–3 mm long.
    Flowers
    Flowers axillary, solitary, in pairs or in 3–4-flowered fascicles; pedicels 2.5–3.5 mm long; bracts 2–3 × 1 mm, lanceolate, striate; bracteoles 3–4 mm long, lanceolate.
    Calyx
    Calyx densely golden villous; tube 2.5 mm long; lobes 3–4 mm long, linear-triangular, the upper two connate along almost all their length.
    Corolla
    Standard greenish-yellow, 10–11 × 6–8 mm, obovate, emarginate at the apex or not, with linear appendages 3–4 mm long; wings 8–12 × 1–2 mm; keel 10–14 × 3–5 mm.
    Ovary
    Ovary 6–8 mm long, linear, tomentose, 6–8-ovuled.
    Fruits
    Pod golden, 4–5.5 cm × 4–5 mm, linear, compressed, glabrous or puberulous though margins always puberulous, 6–8-seeded.
    Seeds
    Seeds reddish-brown, 3–4 × 2 × 1 mm, smooth; hilum small, central.

    Erect perennial herb 0·5–1 m. tall from a tough, but perhaps not tuberous, woody rootstock.

    Stems single, branched, shortly woolly with dense grey or ferruginous spreading hairs.

    Leaflets 3, paler beneath, elliptic, 1·8–5·6 cm. long, 0·6–2·5 cm. wide, obtuse to subacute at the apex, ± narrowed to a rounded base, pubescent above, densely softly velvety pubescent beneath, the nerves sometimes with ferruginous hairs; petiole 1·5–3·5 cm. long; rhachis 2–3 mm. long; petiolules 2–3 mm. long; stipules 10 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, pubescent, veined.

    Flowers 1–4 in axillary fascicles; peduncles 3–4 mm. long; pedicels 2·5–3·5 mm.; bracts ovate-lanceolate, 3 mm. long; bracteoles lanceolate, 3·5–4 mm. long, pubescent.
    Calyx
    Calyx pubescent with spreading hairs; tube 2·5 mm. long; lobes linear-triangular, 3–5 mm. long, tapering at the apex; upper pair joined into a triangular lobe with a finely bifid tip.
    Corolla
    Standard greenish-yellow, obovate, 11 mm. long, 8·5 mm. wide, rounded or emarginate at the apex; keel cream.
    Fruits
    Pod linear, 4–5·5 cm. long, 5 mm. wide, compressed, margined, tipped by the curved style-base, faces glabrous or puberulous, but margins always spreading puberulous.
    Seeds
    Seeds dark red with blackish mottling, ellipsoid-oblong, longest dimension 3–4 mm., shorter dimension 2–2·5 mm., 1 mm. thick.
