    Habit
    Perennial herb; main roots often swollen; stems spreading or erect and up to 35 cm. tall, occasionally rooting at the nodes near the base.
    Leaves
    Stipules pubescent, up to 2 cm. long; leaflets up to 4 cm. long and 15 mm. wide but usually much less, the upper ones usually elliptic, the lower cuneate or cuneate-obovate, apex acute, rounded, truncate or, rarely, emarginate.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences ± globose, up to 2–2·5 cm. across, many-flowered; peduncle pubescent, 2–5 cm. long, rarely more; bracts white, oblong, up to 1 mm. long; pedicels up to 1·5 mm. long, not reflexed in fruit.
    Calyx
    Calyx-tube ± 2·5 mm. long, 11–15-nerved, the teeth subulate for most of their length.
    Corolla
    Corolla purple.

    Ovules 2.
    Fruits
    Pod ± 4 mm. long and 1·8 mm. wide.
    Seeds
    Seeds 1–2, often mottled, almost globular, ± 1·4 mm. in diameter.
