    Robust erect perennial shrub, 1–4 m tall.

    Stems aculeate, sparsely to densely and uniformly pubescent

    Leaves unlobed or shallowly 3-lobed or ovate, 4–8.5 × 1.3–6 cm, apex acute, base truncate to cuneate, margin coarsely serrate, leaf nectary present on midrib at base of abaxial surface; petiole 0.3–3.5 cm long, sparsely aculeate and densely pubescent; stipules linear, 2–4 mm long, pubescent, caducous

    Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicel 5–8 mm long, articulated at base, pubescent-hispid; epicalyx of 6–7 linear bracts, 9–13 × 1–2 mm, pubescent or pubescent-hispid, obscurely several-veined; calyx lobes acuminate, 1.4–2.2 cm long, densely hispid in the fused parts, pubescent toward the apex, nectary present or absent on the median vein
    Corolla
    Corolla white to deep purple via pale yellow, yellow, pink or red, 3–5.5 cm long, glabrous to sparsely pubescent.
    Stamens
    Staminal tube 2–4 cm long; filaments 2–3 mm long; exserted part of style 6–10 mm long, glabrous
    Fruits
    Capsule broadly ovoid, 1.3–1.7 cm long, 1.1–1.7 cm in diameter, densely setose.
    Seeds
    Seeds subreniform 4 × 3 mm, the surface covered with scales.
