    Habit
    Erect or semiscandent undershrub, 2–3 m high.

    Stems hispid with yellow hairs to 3 mm long; prickles small, to 2 mm long, from swollen base, recurved

    Leaves palmately 5-lobed, 8–10 × 9–11 cm, lobes deltoid, apex acute or acuminate, base cordate or truncate, margin crenate-serrate, with gland on the midrib below, near the base, tomentose; petiole 4–10 cm long, hispid and aculeate, the prickles recurved to 1 mm, and with an adaxial line of pubescence; stipules linear, 6–9 × 0.5–1.5 mm, glabrous or hispid

    Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicel 4–12 cm long, as long as or longer than the adjacent petiole, articulated near the top; epicalyx of 7–10 linear bracts, 17 × 1–3.5 mm, forked, the outer branch spatulate, hispid; calyx lobes lanceolate, united in the bottom half, shortly stellate-hispid along the veins; without a nectary on the median vein, 15–20 × 7–10 mm

    Corolla pink or yellow with dark centre, 4–6 cm long, glabrous.
    Stamens
    Staminal tube 2–2.5 cm long; filaments 2–3 mm long; exserted part of style 4–8 mm long, glabrous or sparsely villous
    Fruits
    Capsule ovoid, 13 mm long, 20 mm diameter.
    Seeds
    Seeds subreniform, brown, 4 × 3 mm, brown, with pectinate scales on a background of concentric rings.

    Edge of wet forest; 1000–1300 m
