    Habit
    A prostrate to decumbent, sometimes climbing, perennial herb
    Stem
    Stems reddish-brown, 10–30 cm long, slender, branched, glandular-pubescent, rooting at the lower nodes
    Leaves
    Leaf lamina with upper part (5)10–35 × 5–20 mm, ovate to ovate-rhombic, acute or acuminate at the apex, cuneate to a short petiole-like basal part with lobes at the very base, glandular-pubescent on both surfaces when young and only on margins and nerves beneath when older, green above, pale green beneath with an inverted V-shaped blotch apparent on both surfaces near the middle of the leaf
    Ocrea
    Ocrea brownish, 4–8 mm long, truncate and ciliate at the apex, with reddish hairs outside
    Flowers
    Flowers sessile, in globose or oblong pedunculate capitula; capitula 5–10 mm in diameter and surrounded by membranous ovate bracts; peduncles up to 30 mm long, slender, glandular-pubescent
    Perianth
    Perianth pinkish, 2.5–3 mm long, 5-lobed; lobes ovate, obtuse at the apex
    Stamens
    Stamens 5; filaments 0.7 mm long, filiform; anthers 0.15 mm in diameter, globose
    Ovary
    Ovary 0.4 mm long, ovoid; styles 3, united above the middle
    Fruits
    Nut black and shiny, c. 2 mm long, ovoid, trigonous, smooth to minutely punctate.

    Malawi ZIM E, ZIM S, MAL S Zimbabwe Native of the subtropical and temperate Himalayas, cultivated as a garden ornamental, becoming naturalized in the Azores, Madeira, west and northwest Iberian Peninsula and occasionally in central and western Europe; 1200–1700 m.
