Distribution

China (W. Sichuan, S. Gansu, S. Shaanxi, W. Henan, NW. Hubei).

Ecology

On grassy banks, in scrub, on the edge of woodland and in forest; 1500-3700 m.

General Description

A terrestrial herb 13-35 cm tall, with clustered erect densely villose stems. Leaves three to seven, the lowermost three sheathing, the uppermost ones elliptic to elliptic-ovate, shortly acuminate, 6-17.5 cm long, 3-8.8 cm wide, ciliate, hairy on the veins of both surfaces. Inflorescence one-flowered; peduncle densely villose; bract leaf-like, elliptic to lanceolate, 6-8.5 cm long, 2-3.5 cm wide, ciliate. Flower pink with purple venation on all segments; ovary 2-4 cm long, densely red-villose and glandular. Dorsal sepal elliptic-ovate, acute or shortly acuminate, 4-5.2 cm long, 2.22.8 cm wide; synsepal elliptic-lanceolate, bifid at apex, 3.3-4.2 cm long, 1.3-2.5 cm wide. Petals straight or subfalcate, lanceolatetapering, acute, 3.7-5 cm long, 1.2-1.9 cm wide, pubescent at base on inner surface. Lip deeply saccate, 3.2-5 cm long. Column 1-1.1 cm long; staminode heart-shaped to triangular, acute, 1.2-1.4 cm long, 0.8-0.9 cm wide.
