Ecology

In stony ground, usually llmestone, in semi-shade on margins of and in Pinus (pine) and Picea (spruce) forest, and in mixed montane forest and scrub; (1570-) 2300-3600 m.

General Description

A terrestrial herb forming small clumps; rhizome very short. Stems erect, clustered, slender, 5-18 cm long, 0.2 cm in diameter, pubescent, usually with three or rarely with two or four leaves subtended by three, cylindrical, obtuse sheaths. Leaves suberect elliptic to lanceolate, obtuse to acute, 3-8 cm long, 1-3.8 cm wide, very shortly ciliate. Inflorescence erect, one-flowered; peduncle slender, 3.5-9 cm long, shortly pubescent; bract leaf-like, elliptic to lanceolate, acute, 1.7-3.6 cm long, very shortly ciliate. Flower small, with an elusive fragrance, with chocolate-brown or greenish brown sepals and petals and a white lip and staminode, the lip lightly spotted with pink on apical rim; pedicel and ovary 1.5-1.8 cm long, shortly and densely pubescent. Dorsal sepal erect, ovate to lanceolate, acute, 1.8-2.2 cm long, 0.6-0.9 cm wide, slightly pubescent at the base; lateral sepals free to base, falcate, linearligulate, acute, 1.2-1.5 cm long, 0.2-0.3 cm wide, slightly pubescent at the base. Petals porrect, falcate, linear-ligulate, acute, 1.6-1.8 cm long, 0.1-0.2 cm wide, pubescent in basal half. Lip saccate, obliquely conical with a blunt apex, 1.6-2.4 cm long, pubescent on front 'rim. Column 0.6-0.7 cm long; staminode convex, subquadrate- obovate, truncate or slightly notched with a short blunt apicule, 0.5-0.7 cm long and wide, slightly pustular in middle.
