    Habit
    Terrestrial herb with separate fertile and sterile shoots.
    Sterile
    Sterile shoot to c. 4 cm tall; leaves up to 5, conduplicate, 7–12 cm long and up to 12 mm wide, linear-lanceolate, erect, acute.
    Shoots
    Fertile shoot robust, 15–30 cm tall; cauline leaves imbricate, 4.5–5.5 cm long, ovate-lanceolate, acute, sheathing with the apical third free; basal leaves reduced to sheaths 2–3 cm long. Sterile shoot to c. 4 cm tall; leaves up to 5, conduplicate, 7–12 cm long and up to 12 mm wide, linear-lanceolate, erect, acute.

    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence dense, 6–10 cm long, 7–15-flowered.

    Floral bracts c. 3 cm long, ovate, acute to subacuminate, overtopping the flowers.
    Flowers
    Flowers magenta, the galea paler with darker spots.
    Calyx
    Dorsal sepal spathulate; claw 3 mm long and 3 mm wide, sometimes difficult to distinguish from the blade; blade 10–13 mm in diameter, round, obtuse, shallowly galeate, margin incurved. Lateral sepals 9–13 mm long, oblong, obtuse to subacute, spreading sideways and upwards.
    Spur
    Spur pendent from just below the middle of the blade, reaching to the base of the dorsal sepal, 4–6 mm long, clavate, obtuse.
    Corolla
    Petals 2-lobed; anterior lobe 6–7 × 4–5 mm, flanking the anther and spreading, the margins incurved and sometimes serrate; posterior lobe 7–8 × 2–3 mm, ± ovate, acute to obtuse, occasionally serrate, erect inside the galea and somewhat overlapping.
    Labellum
    Lip pendent, 10–11 mm long, linear.
    Anthers
    Anther erect, 4–5 mm long.
    Stigma
    Stigma vertical, sessile, tripulvinate.
    Ovary
    Ovary c. 1.5 cm long.
