    Habit
    Terrestrial herb with separate fertile and sterile shoots; perennating by testicular tubers.
    Shoots
    Sterile shoots to 14 cm tall, 1–4-leaved; leaves erect, conduplicate, 15–30 cm long, elliptic to oblanceolate, acute. Fertile shoots 60–100 cm tall; cauline leaves imbricate, grading into the floral bracts, mostly sheathing with small free blades; blades 7–8 cm long, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, acute to subacuminate.

    Sterile shoots to 14 cm tall, 1–4-leaved; leaves erect, conduplicate, 15–30 cm long, elliptic to oblanceolate, acute.
    Fertile
    Fertile shoots 60–100 cm tall; cauline leaves imbricate, grading into the floral bracts, mostly sheathing with small free blades; blades 7–8 cm long, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, acute to subacuminate.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence lax to sub-dense, 15–25 cm long, 15–30-flowered.

    Floral bracts overtopping the flowers, 2.5–4.5 cm long, lanceolate, acute to acuminate.
    Flowers
    Flowers borne horizontally, mauve to purple, the galea spotted.
    Spur
    Spur borne horizontally from a broad conical base, soon decurved, 12–17 mm long, slender in the middle, the apex clavate or subclavate.
    Calyx
    Lateral sepals 13–20 mm long, sub-oblique, oblong, sub-acute to rounded. Dorsal sepal galeate; galea, rounded, erect 12–18 mm long, 8–15 mm wide and 12–16 mm deep, ovate.
    Corolla
    Petals 15–18 mm long, narrowly lanceolate, acute, erect.
    Labellum
    Lip 11–15 mm long, linear, rounded or truncate.
    Rostellum
    Rostellum lateral lobes parallel, c. 2 mm tall.
    Anthers
    Anther 5–6 mm long.
    Stigma
    Stigma subsessile.
    Ovary
    Ovary 1.5–2.5 cm long.
