    Habit
    A straggling perennial with a thick, perennial, gnarled, woody rootstock.
    Stem
    Annual stems reddish, densely pubescent, becoming ± glabrous above.
    Ocrea
    Ocreae ± 5 mm. long, pubescent, membranous, truncate with a terminal fringe of setae 5–7 mm. long.
    Leaves
    Leaves shortly but clearly petiolate, ovate to ovate-deltoid, marginally entire, 3.2–3.5 × 1.5–2.0 cm., apically subacute with the midrib excurrent as a mucro, basally rounded or ± so to the petiole, densely pustular, pubescent only on the midribs of both faces.

    Petioles densely pubescent, 2 mm. long.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence very long, slender (50–) 70–125 cm. long, arcuate.
    Bracts
    Bracts 3–4 mm. long, ± glabrous, up to 2.8 (–3) cm. apart, sometimes in semi-adjacent pairs, fringed with setae up to 2 mm. long.
    Flowers
    Pedicels 5–9 to each bract; those of hermaphrodite flowers very long, 1.5–2.5 (–3) cm., and usually only 1–2 per bract; of male flowers 3–5 mm. long, filiform. Tepals ovate-oblong or oblong, 2.75 mm. long (2.53 mm.; styles clearly exceeding the stamens, fide Mildbr.). Short styles 1 mm. long, connate 0.4 mm.
    Fruits
    (Immature fruit fusiform-trigonous, villous, with three small erect prickles, fide Mildbr.)
    Habitat
    Dry, sandy woodland, frequent in low grass; about 400 m.
