    Habit
    Spreading bush or small tree 2–5 m. high; bark grey, flaking; branchlets grey, smooth, or bark flaking off in papery pieces, lenticellate.
    Leaves
    Leaves alternate, especially on new shoots, or crowded at the ends of the short corky branchlets, mostly unifoliolate, occasionally 3–9-foliolate, the higher numbers (5–9-foliolate) being rare and occurring mainly on new shoots; petiole 1–3.1 cm. long in unifoliolate leaves; petiole-rachis up to 3.5 cm. long in compound leaves, flattened above, leaflets broadly oblong to broadly obovate, glabrous, 1.5–6 cm. long and 1.5–3.7 cm. broad when unifoliolate, more variable and smaller in size in compound leaves with the lateral ones smaller than the terminal, broadly obtuse at the apex, sometimes shortly mucronate, obtuse at the base, margin broadly dentate on the unifoliolate ones to entire on the compound leaflets, membranous to semicoriaceous, glabrous, brownish green above to pale green beneath; midrib prominent beneath.

    Inflorescences borne at the end of the branchlets or in the distal leaf-axils, 5–15 mm. long, little branched spike-like panicles in ♂, flowers usually single in ♀, glabrous.

    Male flowers:sepals 1–1.5 mm. long and broad, membranous along the margin; petals oblong-ovate, 1.8–2.5 mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. broad, obtuse, red-cream; filaments 0.2–0.8 mm. long; anthers 0.8–1 mm. long.
